Merit winners for the month of October |
In English, we focused on penmanship and poetry. We read poems from several poets and identified the rhyming words in each of them. We were able to produce and recognize words with visual and partner support. We looked at the features of poetry and worked on creating a poem on our own.

Students identified the rhyming words in a poem. |
In Math, we continued to work on our division skills. This week we used a discovery approach to explore the meaning of division and brainstormed basic terms such as dividend, divisor and quotient. We explored the relationship between multiplication and division. We then solve division problems and learned why 0 cannot be a divisor.
In Unit of Inquiry, we continued to inquire into ways in which we can save resources and protect our planet. We learned about environmental consequences of not recycling and conducted a research on Greta Thunberg to learn more about global warming. As a class, we discussed the actions we can take to stop global warming and we came up with several actions we can take to protect the earth. Later on in the week, we worked together to make useful crafts from waste materials in the classroom. We also created a pictograph to see how many items we recycled in a week. We were not impressed with the result on the pictograph so we all made a promise to try our best to minimize the amount of materials we use next week.

This week we add more to the list of actions we can take to stop global warming. |

Lily, Kai and Ece reused a pet bottle to make a flower pot for the class garden. |

Taichi, Runa and Franklin reused sponge and cardboard to make an eraser for the board. |
|
Rion and Alisa reused paper towel roll to make a telescope. |
|
We made a pictograph to see how many items we recycled in a week. |
|
We watched a video of a recycling plant to further educate ourselves on the practice of reducing, reusing and recycling materials and why these are important practices in our daily lives. |
Have a good weekend,
Ms.Trichelle
