This week in grade 1!
What a week! We started our new unit this week for unit of inquiry. Our central idea is that homes reflect personal identity, culture and environment. We have been focusing on the idea that a home is not just a house, but anywhere that we live. The students spun the globe and randomly picked a country or city to research for homework and tell the class what the homes are like in that place. The students have been doing a great job listening and presenting throughout the week.
In math we will be focusing on different types of measurements which we will apply to our summative assessment of designing our own model home (using area and blueprints as well).
In English we will be covering stories from around the world and tying it into what the homes are like in those places and how different cultures view and use homes in different ways.
