This week in grade 1!

Thanks to everyone who brought  in items for the food drive. We collected an amazing amount of  food!

I hope everyone had a good time at ICF, your costumes looked great!

Our new Unit of Inquiry is “Sharing the Planet” is well under way. This week we will be focusing on the oceans and the resources we get from them. We have been working on our own continuation to the story of the Lorax and they are looking great!

In math we are starting to look at data handling which includes data collection, and reading and creating graphs which we will connect to the unit of Inquiry.

Starting on Friday we will be using a new program called Mathletics. I will be sending the login information home on Tuesday with their homework. It is a tiny square paper. If it doesn’t make it home let me know.

Just a reminder that the deadline for the drawing contest is coming up this Wednesday October 31st. The contest details are attached in the photo below from the last blog post. This week in grade 1!

Thanks to everyone who has been bringing in items for the food drive. We have already collected one big box full of food!

Just a reminder that next week is ICF on Friday. Can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes. The students have been working hard on decorations for the Mexico themed room.

Our new Unit of Inquiry is “Sharing the Planet”. Our central idea is “ We share and protect the earth’s finite resources.” We will be studying the different biomes and the resources we get from the, focusing on wetlands, forests, grasslands, freshwater and saltwater environments, and deserts.

Coming up there is also a drawing contest put together by our student council. The contest details are attached in the photo above. This week in grade 1-

We finished up our unit of Inquiry on homes. This week we will be starting a new unit on the environment! Everyone drew blueprints, designed and built their own model homes which reflected their unique personalities. Hopefully the students will be able to bring some of their work home!

We will continue our measurement unit in math  which we have been applying to our model homes.

We have finished all the grade one spelling words and are moving on to the grade 2 list.
