Term 2 Week 7

Hello Parents,

In Unit of Inquiry,  we worked cooperatively with our peers and constructed a rubric to use for our summative assessment. Based on the requirements of the assessment, we all agreed that we would like to be marked on four categories: research content, neatness, creativity and voice presentation. Throughout the week, we continued to work on our home research and complete the details on our house models. For the summative assessment, we invited our school buddy class to join us in the morning  for a home-viewing exhibition. We were very excited to take them on a tour around the world as we displayed the house models and shared what we learned in the unit.

We had a great time explaining the reasons for the choice of materials used to build the homes.

In Mathematics, we continued to use a variety of analog clock faces to tell the time.We explored digital and analogue time and sequenced events in the correct order. During the latter half of the week, we revised the concepts of am, pm, units of time and time word problems.

Have a good weekend,

Term 2 Week 6

Hello Parents,

In Mathematics, we continued to learn about the elements of a clock. We explained their functions and practiced asking and telling the time.We practiced numerals from one to twelve by using a  number line. We had a great time using our handmade clocks to tell the time on the hour, half hour and quarter. We also used measures of time to help with problem solving in real-life situations.

Franklin and Ece working together to solve time-related problems.

Runa used her handmade clock to tell her classmates the time.

We made up word problems about time and challenged our peers to solve them.

In English, we continued to work on our writing skills. We wrote our own stories and worked with our peers to identify the various elements of a good story. We wrote our ideas on writing strips and presented the information in class. We also looked at sequencing throughout the week. We read books from the library and  organized ideas in a logical sequence by highlighting the beginning, middle and end of  various written pieces.

In Unit of  Inquiry, we inquired into the importance of adequate housing and worked together to communicate key messages to our peers. We used Think-Pair-Share strategy to develop messages about having a home and brainstormed  ways of completing sentences about various types of homes.

We had a fun and productive sports day on Friday, October 11th. It was good to see all the students and parents having a great time competing in various races and cheers. Thank you to all the students, parents  and staff for creating such a positive and enthusiastic day.

Have a good weekend,

Term 2 Week 3

Hello Parents,

We had a busy week. The students had a great time preparing for International Children Festival (ICF). We were happy to celebrate Jamaica and the other countries in the festival. We worked cooperatively with our peers to make crafts and writing pieces to decorate our classroom.

Where is Jamaica?

In English, we connected with our inquiry and focused on organizing ideas in a logical sequence. We had a great time reading a variety of books and highlighting the beginning, middle and end. We were happy to work in pairs and  choose our favorite books to present in class. We also continued to work on our spelling skills. We teamed up with a spelling partner and challenged ourselves to spell all the words on our word wall.

In Math,  we started out by looking at simple multiplication problems. We enhanced our understanding of of the topic by analyzing the relationship between addition and multiplication. We had fun exploring our environment and creating our own multiplication word problems. We then worked in pairs and challenged ourselves to solve them.

Have a good weekend!
