Where We Are In Time And Place

This theme was a roller coaster of emotions. As soon as we started we had to go online for several weeks, however this was very beneficial for grade 1 since they could understand how to develop a study environment at home and understand how much support they get from their parents. Since at school we are looking for risk-takers and being proactive when in trouble it was a good opportunity for them to learn how to ask for help when in trouble. At the same time, Grade 1 became better at answering using full sentences rather than answers.

Unit of Inquiry

This theme we focused so traditions, cultures, and how those affect ourselves. We were able to explore different communities as well as which we would like to be part of. Answering the questions what makes us unique was and is still difficult for us to answer since we are still learning about ourselves everyday. 

During our last week we focused on how our uniqueness change the way we live in our homes. Some of the examples they mentioned was that if they didn't like chocolate or some certain food their parents would not buy. Another example is that what they like changes how people around them react to them.

During one of our lessons the students were very excited to learn about dances around the world. 

Maths

In maths we focused on how to name the different parts of 2D and 3D shapes as well as working on to give directions properly using preposition words. Please watch here how they work in groups to send others to their destination.

English

In English, Grade 1 has been working very hard to be able to identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives without even thinking about it. It has been a long process and we are still learning how to do it but it has been such a pleasure listening to them using longer and more complete sentences when they are speaking to each other. Gym

One of the focus points for this theme was team work. They have been learning how to work as a team by playing kick ball. Please have a look at the video to see more as to how they play it at the park.
