Sharing The Planet
We had so much this theme that we not only focused on our class but there were many events throughout this theme. We also had the opportunity to learn from other grades about how our actions can impact our future? How some people have different opportunities? How can we take control of our emotions? and also how are people so smart to take action?
Unit of Inquiry
For UOI we focused on Finite Resources, what they are? How people came to find them? and also how were they formed. The students were able to practice their research and communication skills since they had to work together for a common goal: how can we protect earth as grade 1?
UOI is algo a great time to work on how to express our emotions especially since it is connected to our next theme How To Express Ourselves. After having a class meeting about our problems we all decided that sometimes it is very hard for us to control our feelings and sometimes we tend to act before thinking. So we got together in teams and came up with some solutions.
Question of the day
As you are very aware we started a daily question homework. This is an opportunity for all parents to engage in what they are learning at school. We understand sometimes you are busy however the most important thing of this is the quality time you are spending with your child. Sharing opinions and feelings is very important for their emotional development as well. This exercise provides an opportunity for your child to have control of their own learning. Therefore, we recommend talking with them about the word instead of just translating. This is how we use it at school.
Designing Project (Summative Assessment)
For this topic we all decided that we could help our community by creating recycle bins for the school. They got in groups and started discussing what kind of bin they would like to make. (Please refer to the movie celebration of learning to learn more about it)
English
In English we have been working so much on grammar, writing short sentences with meaning as well as spelling. They have been enjoying working together in order to identify when is necessary to write the "s" after a word.
We also worked very hard making all the props for International Childrens Festival!
For Math we have been increasing our knowledge by introducing multiplication. We started by using the addition method. In the beginning a lot of us were scared by the "x" sign but as we continue to practice it became easier and easier.
All and all it was another great term this year. As we say goodbye to 2021 Grade 1 also worked on writing goals for 2022. It has been a true pleasure being their teacher since May and cannot wait to see them grow and grow each year.
