Term 3 Week 3

Hello Parents,

In English class, we continued to examine the art of poetry. We looked at a variety of poetry forms and literary devices used to make each one effective. We also used specific art related vocabulary to write our own poems. We had a great time writing about broader themes and reflecting on our peers' poems. In the latter part of the week, we worked on grammar and punctuation marks. We used creative writing, discussion and activities to learn how to use common punctuation marks effectively.

In Math, we worked in groups to discover the rules and extend various patterns. We continued to create our own patterns for our peers to extend. We also worked on our multiplication and division skills. We looked at the relationship between division and multiplication. We also used properties of operations to solve multiplication and division problems.

In Unit of Inquiry, we continued to inquire into the different art forms. We looked at the work of  famous artists,  and developed interpretations of their work based on visual evidence. We also evaluated alternate perspectives expressed by our peers and identified ways in which attributes of art conveyed ideas. We had a great time creating our own work in the style of the selected artists.

Term 3 Week 1

Hello Parents!

Welcome back to school! I hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year.

In Unit of Inquiry, we inquired into the different art forms. We brainstormed the definition of art and  examined the work of famous artists. We had a great time critiquing art pieces and researching  about them. We also created our own art and invited our peers to view them. Later on in the week,  we worked on our performance for YEP , and will continue to do so in the coming week.

In Math class, we inquired into patterns. We explored, identified, described and created patterns using a variety of materials in various contexts. This week we focused on identifying patterns in numbers using odd, even and skip counting. We had a great time working with our peers to answer and ask questions about patterns. We then created our own patterns and challenged our peers to identify and extend them.

In English class, we looked at storytelling through art. We explored the connection between art and storytelling. We analyzed the impact of art as a personal storytelling and a form of self expression. We later drew our own art stories and challenged our peers to see if they could figure out what the story was about.

Have a great weekend,
Ms.Trichelle
