Term 1 Week 1

Dear Grade 1 Parents,

This week, we spent the time getting to know one another  and learning  our classroom routines .We talked about the various learner profiles and we later went on to create our class contract. We also selected our class representative and engaged in various activities that you will see throughout this blog.

Unit of Inquiry-Who We Are

We started our fist unit of the year by looking at our central idea and explaining it in our our terms. We later went on to inquire  into who we are as an individual. We looked at the nature of  self  and drew a picture to represent us. Later on in the week, we went on to find out things about our school and wider community. We brainstormed ideas, interviewed each other, watched videos and designed a venn diagram based on our similarities and differences.

English

We practiced some writing activities and placed great focus on letter formation. We learned about  adjectives and came up with our own examples to describe our friends. Throughout the week, we visited the library and engaged in various types of reading to improve our reading skills.

Mathematics

We looked at basic fractions this week. We practiced recognizing and  reading fraction names. Later on in the week, we  made our very own pizza fractions and brainstormed ways  in which we use fractions in our daily lives.
