Term 2- International Children's Festival (ICF)

Dear Parents,

Last week we hosted the International Children's Festival (ICF) at our school. We participated in games and activities to learn about traditions and celebrations from different countries. We learned about  countries such as Cuba, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Nigeria and the Philippines. We did our presentation on the Philippines, which is a country in southeast Asia. We brainstormed ideas for games, activities  and decorations we wanted to use to teach the school about their culture. With some help from our buddy class, we spent weeks preparing for this remarkable event. It was a day filled with learning, sharing and fun.

Throughout the course of our research on the Philippines, we learned that jeepneys were a popular and iconic public utility vehicle there. For this reason, we made a jeepney as our photo booth. We used cardboard to make it and worked cooperatively to put it together.  We were very excited to take pictures in it.

We used egg cartons to make sungka. Sungka is a traditional Filipino game that is still played today.

We used a tin can and hula hoop to make tumbang preso. Tumbang preso is one of the traditional games played by Filipino children.

We used bouncing balls and lego bricks to make jackstones. Jackstones is a traditional game in the Philippines.

We made posters, puzzles and brochures about the Philippines.

Please take a look at the other countries that were represented at the festival.
